Building Clinicians Confidence in Inherited Cancer Risk Assessment
Host: Inherited Cancers Australia
Date: Wednesday 21 October 2026
Time: 2.00pm – 3.30pm
Venue: Adelaide Convention Centre – City Rooms 3 &4
Inherited cancers account for approximately 5–10% of Australia’s total cancer burden. While genomic testing and clinical guidelines continue to evolve, many clinicians report limited confidence in recognising inherited cancer risk, interpreting family history, and supporting patients beyond referral and testing. This gap is particularly important in rural and remote communities, where access to genetic services, specialist advice and psychosocial support may be limited.
This 90-minute interactive education session, facilitated by a genetics clinician, will combine brief didactic teaching, facilitated discussion, lived-experience insights and hands-on case-based learning. Participants will work through realistic scenarios to practice identifying genetic red flags, applying referral criteria, gathering family history, and discussing the implications of genetic testing to ongoing care and support.
